Companies and bodies interested in hosting students and graduates from the University of Bologna must stipulate a framework agreement with the University. The agreement can be stipulated with the Internship Office or with the Faculties. In both cases the company can host interns from all degree programmes.
How to stipulate an agreement with the Faculty of Arts and Humanities
The companies that do not have an agreement and wish to take part in the University’s internship programme need to register on Online service in order to receive the login details for the internship management programme.
During registration the following data will be requested: tax code or VAT number, company contacts, description and field of activity of the company.
The company will be asked to state whether personal applications from students are accepted. In this case the company will be added to the list of companies taking part in the University's internship programme visible to students; students will then be able to send personal applications even if no specific offer has been published.
At the end of the registration a summary will be displayed with the login data assigned to the person in charge of management who will then confirm the people responsible for internships in the different sectors.
The Faculty Academic Office will forward the company’s request to the professors of the Internship Boards for prior approval of the agreement. The company can monitor the progress of the application through the programme.
Once approved, the company must send or deliver the agreement form, duly filled in and signed (the form is downloadable from the box on the right).
The agreement will then be signed by the Faculty Dean and displayed as effective on the programme. Internships cannot begin before there is an agreement between the company and the University.
How to start an internship
Internships can be organised for students (curricular internships) or final year students and graduates, within 18 months from graduation, (extra-curricular internships or pursuant the Treu law). To receive applications the company must publish an internship offer describing the profile required. The entire process can be managed directly on the web using the program.
Companies that accept personal applications will be displayed in the list of companies taking part in the University’s internship programme and may be contacted by students even where no offer is published.
Once the agreement has been concluded the programme form (for curricular internships) or the project form (for extra-curricular internships) must be sent or delivered to the Faculty Internship Office. The forms can be downloaded from the annexes box on the right.
The form will then be signed by the Faculty Director. Internships must not start, for whatever reason, before the completed form has been signed by the Faculty Director because the insurance coverage will not be effective.
Insurance
The University of Bologna offers insurance cover to interns against accidents at work (INAIL) and third party liability cover through other insurance companies.
Tutors and number of interns
During the internship students must be followed by a company tutor appointed by the company/body and by a university tutor chosen by the students themselves.
Article 1 of the regulation of reference (Ministerial Decree 142/98 Implementation regulation of law 196/97) envisages that the bodies can accept interns for an extra-curricular internship related to the company’s activity within the following limits:
- companies with less than five employees with open-ended contracts: one intern;
- companies with between six and nineteen employees with open-ended contracts: not more than two interns at the same time;
- companies with more than twenty employees with open-ended contracts: interns to a maximum of ten per cent of the above employees at any one time.
These limits are not applicable to internships for students, i.e. curricular internships.
